Daemon 8

  1. DAEMON 8 - A black ink and gray pencil drawing on an 11 x 14 size vellum paper. It is part of the "Daemon" series I started for "Fantastic Stories".

My text for the story appeared in white ink along the bottom of the illustration:

"O'er the dark vast sea our ship sails toward the evening star that paints a silver path for us across the shimmering waves. There has been ample time for dreaming, the men find it hard to mark the empty hours, as time, like grains of sand trickle uselessly through our fingers. What strange hand has placed the stars in that vast design above? The stars, are they, like we, blood-brothers cursed to wander the infinite black sea of space, forever? Mother sea is old in wisdom, from the deep her ageless voice haunts my soul, Follow the dreams of youth my son, waste not your life. Enjoyment as an end is not enough, life was made for sterner stuff . . . Seek . . . Seek out your destiny!"

From the time of the ancients it has been claimed that the position and movement of the stars and planets have an influence on what occurs on planet Earth. The practice of Astrology still goes on today.

That is a frightening concept because if it's true, it means that cosmic forces are interfering with my life, and yours! If "Horoscopes" are to be believed, then what "freedom" do we really have to control our lives?

I intended to use that astrological concept in my story; that all objects in the Universe are connected by unknown celestial forces. I had hoped to use those forces in a big way in my story.
